CEO Aileen Ashford said, “we are at an exciting new phase in our organisation’s journey, and it is with great pride that we unveil an apt new name for the organisation, ‘Kids First’.”
2018 signals a time for transformation for Children’s Protection Society leading to the creation of a distinctive brand identity for the independent children and family support agency. For 122 years, CPS has been at the forefront of supporting children and families and has been setting in place the foundations for better lives by placing the needs of kids first and foremost.
“Underpinning the change is our guiding principles: ‘HEART’ – Hope, Empowerment, Accountability, Respect and Trust. These values will bind the culture, purpose and vision of Kids First, as they have for the past 122 years. As Kids First, we will honour the legacy held within the organisation and continue to be an innovative, progressive and agile organisation capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century” Ms Ashford said.
Kids First will continue to be locally based, intervening early, and calling on the multi-disciplinary skills and expertise of its practitioners to provide the best possible care to clients and their families. The focus will be on all of family and children, siblings, mums, dads and carers will access the Kids First suite of services.

Brief History of Children’s Protection Society (CPS)
CPS was founded in 1896 by Lady Sybil de Vere Brassy, wife of the then Governor of Victoria for the prevention of cruelty to children.
